Book AppointmentAbout RSV and pertussis
RSV
RSV stands for respiratory syncytial virus. It is a common virus that affects the lungs and airways. For many people it causes cold-like symptoms, but it can be more serious for some. The NHS offers RSV vaccination to specific groups of people, and those groups are reviewed over time.
Pertussis (whooping cough)
Pertussis is better known as whooping cough. It is a highly infectious bacterial infection of the lungs and airways. The NHS offers pertussis vaccination to particular groups, as set out in current national guidance.
Why ask your pharmacy
Because the NHS guidance for both vaccines is specific and can change, the easiest way to find out where you stand is to ask. Our team can look at your circumstances, explain whether you are currently eligible and let you know if the vaccine can be given at one of our branches. If it is not suitable or not available through us, we can talk you through your options.
After your vaccination
Before you leave, our pharmacist will explain what to expect over the next few days and what to do if you have any concerns. If anything worries you after your vaccine, call your branch and our team will advise you. We can also tell you about other vaccinations we offer, so you can plan ahead for the rest of the year.
You can find our other vaccination services, including flu vaccinations and Meningitis B vaccination, on our NHS services page.
Before your vaccination
A little preparation helps your appointment go smoothly.
- Contact us first so we can check your eligibility and vaccine availability.
- Tell our pharmacist about any health conditions, medicines or allergies, and any reaction you have had to a vaccine in the past.
- Wear a top that makes it easy to reach your upper arm.
- Write down any questions so you can ask them before the vaccine is given.
Our pharmacist will check that the vaccine is suitable for you on the day and explain what to expect afterwards.
